Tips For Getting Rid Of A Rodent Infestation

Posted on

It is important to make sure that you are tackling an infestation of rodents as soon as you realize that there is a problem in your home. To help make sure that you are getting the best results, you may want to take a few minutes to review the following points.

Use Traps Instead Of Poison

Not only do you have to be careful with the use of poison when you have children or pets in your home, but the use of it can cause you many more problems than a few quality traps would. If the rodents get a hold of the poison, there is a good chance that they could end up perishing under your floors and behind your walls. The smell from this will be overwhelming and it could result in you needing to remove walls or floors to locate the dead rodents so that they can be removed. The alternative would be to place rodent traps in strategic places. There are traps that will kill the rodent upon contact. Then there are live-traps that will allow you to relocate the rodent. Just make sure that you are releasing it somewhere far away from your property so it will not return.

Remove The Food Sources

It is important to make sure that you are removing any food sources that the rodents are finding within your home. If they can no longer retrieve food from your home, they will be forced to find somewhere else to go. Do not leave food from dinner out on the counter or stove. Any cereals or dry pasta boxes that have been opened will need to be poured into plastic food storage containers with lids. Make sure that you are having all children eat at the table so you can easily keep up with the sweeping up of food crumbs instead of crumbs being dropped all over the house. Even if you have some unopened boxes of food, you may want to temporarily store them in large plastic containers with lids. The reason for this is because rodents can easily chew right through the cardboard. This gives them a food source that they will continue to come back for, you will have a mess in your cupboards, and you will have a lot of wasted food.

With just those two points in mind, you should have a much easier time getting rid of the rodent infestation that you are dealing with. For more tips, contact a rodent control expert.
