Gutter Guards Help Protect Your House

Posted on

Gutters are a necessary part of your home. They collect all the water that runs off your roof and funnel it down to a downspout away from your house. Unfortunately, your gutters also catch all of the debris on your roof. So all those branches, leaves, frisbees, and other stuff that can collect on your roof will end up in your gutters. While getting that stuff off your roof is good, having it all collected in your gutters is not good. You will need to periodically clean out your gutters to get rid of all that debris so that they aren't blocked add water can flow normally through them. You also have other options for dealing with all the debris in your gutters. One of those options is to go with gutter guards.

Gutter Guards

These can also be called gutter covers. They go on top of your gutters and generally keep stuff from falling into your gutters. They won't keep out everything, because they have to have some holes in them to let the water in. Because of those holes in the top of the guards, there is always a chance that some small bits of debris will fall into the guard. Small bits of debris will be better than big bits of debris, but you will still need to climb up every so often to clear out the gutters. You won't need to do it as often. Having gutter guards comes with several advantages for you and the protection of your home.

Minimize Risk of Mildew and Mold

When water stands around like it would if you had clogged gutters, mold and mildew can show up; they can show up in your gutters or on your roof. Either place the mold shows up can mean it will damage your home. For example, mold growing on your roof and in your gutters can get under your roof's shingles, get into your attic, and spread spores through your house. Spores spreading through your home can mean that you'll have mold in other places.

Your home should have gutters to deal with the water from your roof. Carrying the water away from your roof and away from your home not only protects your roof, but it can also protect your foundation since no water will be able to get to it. Installing gutter guards on your roof help to protect everything.
